Independent oil and gas explorer Anadarko Petroleum (APC) said it has discovered crude oil at the Lucius prospect in the Gulf of Mexico. Anadarko found 200 feet of net pay in subsalt Pliocene and Miocene sands, according to a press statement issued by the company.
Anadarko noted the Lucius prospect is in close proximity to the company's Red Hawk spar, which means Lucius could be developed quickly. Anadarko expects to immediately drill up an additional appraisal well to gauge the reservior's extent at Lucius.
Texas-based Anadarko owns 50% of the Lucius well and partners include Plains Exploration (PXP) and Mariner Energy (ME), according to the Wall Street Journal.
